James also served as the supervisor and primary tactics
instructor for the Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team
at Northwestern University. His responsibilities ranged from
coordinating tactical operations to dignitary protection details
for special guests of the university.
After taking a short hiatus from law enforcement, James has recently returned from a one-year contract serving overseas in Afghanistan with a major Department of State private security contractor company.
Upon his return, James served for a short time as a sheriff with the Valencia County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico and was then recruited by the Department of Energy (DOE) as a firearms instructor where he assists with site security assessments and training exercises at various sites across the country.
James
is a graduate of Governors State University and has a Bachelor of Arts
degree in criminal justice. He is a certified Master Firearms
Instructor with the University of Illinois - Police Training
Institute and graduate firearms instructor from the FBI
/ North Chicago Regional Training Center.
James
is also actively involved in martial arts and grappling sports
since 1979. He is the 2003 Pan American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
champion, 2003, 2005 Arnold Schwarzenegger / Gracie Classic
submission tournament champion and member of the Carlson Gracie
Chicago Jujitsu tournament team.
James has presented classes with the following national and international law enforcement training associations and organizations:
